Worm FAQs

What is the poetry Worm?
Worm is a poetry selection that is distributed free via email every month or so.
Why is it called the poetry Worm?
Because it propogates through people's address books. Only difference being that this benevolent little chap is forwarded manually, and from choice.
Isn't that risky: viruses and so forth?
No. Worm is formatted in ASCII text (plain) only. It cannot carry infections.
Well what about copyright?
All poets appearing in the poetry Worm have granted a limited copyright waiver for electronic replication (only) of that collection as a whole (only). People who enjoy Worm are asked to forward it, intact, to others who like modern English language poetry
Doesn't that mean people can steal my poems?
Yes. But photocopiers, scanners and OCR software mean that no text is safe from unscrupulous people anyway.
Who can submit to Worm?
Everybody. Some, but not all, contributors are drawn from The Works mailgroup.
How is material chosen?
Submissions are read by an editorial team of three. The poems are read 'blind' ie: contributor's names are removed. The editorial team is drawn from The Works mail group; its makeup changes for each issue of Worm.
What is the house style?
There isn't one. To get an idea of the standard and range of poetry please read a few copies from the archive.
There must be some limitation, surely?
Pornography, gratuitious violence, and incitement to racial or religious hatred go in the circular file (bin). Otherwise the only limitation is that imposed by the medium: ASCII text does not permit fancy formatting.
Where do I send my poems
Please send a couple in to the editor at grasshopper@wordbug.freeserve.co.uk.
What about money?
Well… No sorry, that's very kind, but we don't accept bribes of any sort.
